Using air transportation during COVID-19

The coronavirus’s first case occurred in Wuhan, China, and then it spread around the whole world. This deadly pandemic killed millions of people and had a destructive impact on the industry and the economy. People were restricted to their homes, schools and businesses were closed, and the economy’s progress became very slow. Hence, traveling, especially by public transport, was also restricted because it was unsafe and could play a significant role in spreading the virus. However, if you use your car or any other transport, then you’ll be less exposed.

Airport transportation has a small share in GDP but is interlinked to other sectors; hence we can say that the aviation industry is the key to enable many other economic activities. During the pandemic, there was a dramatic drop in air transport, and that is why many jobs are at stake. If you want to travel during this ongoing pandemic, then traveling by air is a good option.

According to the Center for disease control (CDC), the airplane is comparatively a safe means of transportation. You can go to the airport by hiring a good airport limo service. Air circulates and is filtered efficiently in airplanes, so most of the germs and viruses do not spread easily.  It is still essential for the passengers to practice all protective measures to keep themselves safe. The CDC recommends that the people traveling by air should provide their up-to-date information to the airline before boarding. In this manner, if any passenger in the flight tests positive for the virus, the authorities will inform you. CDC also recommends that before you take a seat or touch any surface in public transport, including airplanes, make sure that you wipe down the area carefully with disinfectant spray or wipes. Some precautions that you must take while traveling is:

Wash hands or use sanitizer

Suppose you cannot use soap and water for cleaning hands and use a hand sanitizer, which is at least 60% alcohol. According to experts, an effective hand wash with soap and water takes almost 20 seconds, which is the best option to clean hands if sanitizer causes irritation to your skin. Otherwise, using a sanitizer is a good and efficient option that disinfects your hands. After washing or sanitizing hands, avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Avoid traveling if you are unwell.

Covid-19 has a 14 day incubation period, unlike regular flu, which is two days. If you are ill and have a temperature, flu, or any other problem, avoid traveling. Nowadays, many international airports are also conducting temperature checks for arriving and departing passengers. So if you have a fever, it’s better to stay home, or otherwise, there’s a chance that you could not be allowed to board. So it’s a good idea to keep yourself and others safe by not traveling during illness.

Cover your face

The coronavirus spread is mainly due to air droplets transferred from one person to another by breathing, sneezing, or coughing. However, to prevent this spread, it is necessary to cover your mouth by wearing a face mask to protect your fellow traveler. If you note that you are feeling sick before the flight, it’s better to go home.

Get tested

Get yourself tested before two or three days of traveling. Make sure that your test gives negative results before you travel. It’s a good idea to keep a copy of that test with you during travel you might be asked to show one. If you test positive, then there’s no need to travel; immediately isolate yourself and follow the recommendations given by your doctor. During your boarding other activities at the airport, make sure that you avoid the crowds and stay at least 6 feet away from each other.

Can you take your food to the airport and on a flight?

Airlines have efficient service in providing food to the [passengers but numerous airlines nowadays during a pandemic are encouraging the people to bring their food with them. For example, The Hawaiian Airlines and Boston/s Logan International Airport stated that the travelers are welcomed to bring their food on flights and in the terminals. However, it is advised by the authorities to put food in a clear plastic bag for X-ray screening. In many cases, the food triggers security alarms during checking and screening. The plastic bag will protect the food from contamination, and the transport security administration agent will also not check your bags or belongings again and again.

Airport buses and shuttles

Are the airport busses and shuttles still running? It is a common question that travelers frequently ask. Yes, they are still in operation, but the quantity has been dramatically reduced. In earlier days, you were free to hire a good airport limo service of your own choice, but some restrictions are being imposed nowadays due to the pandemic. But the buses and shuttles, still in operation, are cleaned with a good disinfectant daily. During the duty, drivers are advised to wear a mask, gloves and maintain good hygiene, as this is the only means to stop the spread. These buses and shuttles have to take you to your destination.

The health screening process of airports during Covid-19

The health screening processes of airports have become stricter after the pandemic hit the world. Airlines such as the frontier airlines have a temperature screening process for customers. Every customer and crew member has their temperature screened before boarding by using an infrared touchless thermometer. Any person having a temperature higher than 100 degrees would not be allowed to board. All these steps are taken to ensure passenger and crew safety.

Seating in planes during a pandemic

During this pandemic, many domestic airlines have removed the middle seating for use, except if any family member wants to sit near each other. This technique of maintaining a distance between people was followed by the airlines effectively. Still, to deal with the financial burden of Covid-19, American Airlines announced that it would not be restricting the middle seats anymore. The airlines have, however, ensured that they maintain proper hygiene of the cabins and the airplane and disinfect it after each flight by using an electrostatic spray that kills 99.99% of bacteria
